Careers and Personal Development

Accurate and impartial careers education, information and guidance is essential in helping our young people at Bishops’ make informed choices about their future pathways post-16 and post-18.

In line with the Gatsby Benchmarks, we aim to provide a comprehensive level of education, advice, guidance and experiences throughout our students’ 7-year journey to empower them to reach reasoned decisions about their future education, training and occupations. This includes first-hand experiences and contact with industry and employers, further and higher education providers, vocational and academic pathways and work experience placements.

At Bishops’, we strive to foster a culture of life-long learning and our young people are encouraged to utilise their academic and non-academic skills to achieve their true potential in life both in school and beyond. As a result of our outstanding practice in this area, we were recently awarded the Quality in Careers Standard, a national quality award that recognises excellence in careers education, information, guidance, and advice provision.

Careers Advisor

All students are welcome to make an appointment with the school’s careers advisor.

This service is actively marketed to Year 7 – Year 13 students.  In addition to a booking system in the school library, the careers adviser makes priority appointments for Pupil Premium and SEN students for Year 9 upwards. The careers adviser also makes appointments for students to ensure that all either book an appointment or are invited for one during KS4 and KS5.

The careers advisor is also present at Y10, Y11, Y12 and Y13 parents’ evening and at the Year 9 options evening. In addition to this, every student from year 7 to 13 will has access to Unifrog, an online careers advice package.
