Geography aims to help students to develop their skills and understanding of the unit being studied and so develop their sense of self- worth and achievement.

Being a global citizen is a key aim of a geography curriculum. An understanding of people in different places and situations is crucial. Students learn that people have different opinions and ideas, and that tolerance of these views are important, in the interests of respect.

Whilst it is impossible to teach wisdom, we want students to realize that world problems can be solved by collective will and technological advances. We want to challenge the simplistic media representation of places and provide a more nuanced view.

We aim to enable students to demonstrate greater fluency with world knowledge by drawing on increasing breadth and depth of content and contexts. Students will investigate the world through increasingly complex geographical enquiry.

Geographical thinking includes relating the near and far, the physical and human, as well as people and environments. We need to use concepts to group facts together.

Geography has developed a seven-year journey with high take up at GCSE and A Level. We want all students to continue their enjoyment of the subject. Students will learn how to make their own decisions through their geography lessons, they will understand the value of their opinions and how to judge the opinions of others, and ultimately, they will be able to see that change can happen through the actions of ordinary people.
