We all use businesses every day – shops, mobile phones and watching TV are all examples of this. In Business and Enterprise we learn how businesses such as these run. Students are taught through learning about real businesses and current news stories – not just the theory.

We discuss current issues such as the current economic climate and the effect this has on businesses and the effect it could have on their lives. This provides students with a sound base of knowledge about business and its impact on all of us.

Business is a consistently popular course at all levels of education due to its relevance and ability to develop students’ knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them for future study and employment.

Core Subject Principles

Dignity and Respect

We want pupils to be treated with dignity and respect, when offering their opinions on the most effective strategies for business. This means listening to and weighing up point of view of others both in the classroom and in the surrounding society. Pupils’ must appreciate that the actions of a business have far reaching effects on all sections of the world.

Wisdom, Knowledge and Skills

We intend for our pupils’ to steadily build on their knowledge of business throughout the course allowing them to develop their understanding of business and how its functional areas are interlinked. We seek to develop pupils’ curiosity by providing additional reading options as well as highlighting the paths of successful entrepreneurs and businesses. We also refer to videos and documentaries available on a range of platforms to consolidate learning.

We want to develop practical business skills in areas such as financial accounting, managing staff and designing marketing campaigns through the use of in class practice and exposure to real life examples.

Hope and Aspiration

Students will develop a wide palette of business management skills to enable them to identify the challenges a business may have to overcome. In this way we encourage pupils to develop the resilience and hope required to become a successful entrepreneur.

Students will be exposed to a range of business types and job roles in the enterprise environment. Though explanation of the subject matter and employment roles which are linked to it, we will endeavour to highlight career choices for pupils to aspire to.
