Enrichment

When you join Bishops’ Sixth Form, you will benefit not only from the courses you have picked, but from an exciting enrichment and support programme. This has been designed to help you grow in character and develop leadership skills, putting you in the best possible position from which to begin the rest of your life, a life that really can be lived `in all its fullness`.

Your A Levels provide the high academic standards that you require to enter further study or employment.  Alongside these, we aim to inspire you and provide opportunities to develop the leadership and teamwork skills that universities and employers also want to see in applications.  Enrichment opportunities at Bishops` help prepare you for a career by enabling you to gain experiences of leadership, initiative, resilience and communication in a context other than your A Level courses.

As a Church School, all students participate in our programme of ‘Wandering Wednesdays’ to enhance their spiritual development and encourage social action and RE sessions within tutor time and completing a MOOC to enhance independent learning skills.

What we offer

The enrichment programme is delivered through Tutor Time, Personal Development, and dedicated time within your timetable. The programme develops according to the needs of our students but in recent years has included some of the following activities:

  • An increasing number of our students’ complete peer support electives and act as positive role models to younger students by offering support in both reading and numeracy and enabling our students to acquire skills in leadership, communication and teaching.
  • All students pursue our `Quality in Careers` accreditation by undertaking work experience, with many students choosing to complete elective volunteering or work experience placements in order to further enhance their experiences and develop employ ability skills.
  • Many students complete an extended project qualification (EPQ) in a subject area of their own choice which not only allows them to develop their research and skills but also allows them to gain additional UCAS points as EPQ is equivalent to an AS Level.
  • Some students choose to complete an additional qualification in A Level Further Mathematics or AS Core Mathematics, choosing to give themselves the edge by taking a further course.
  • As a Church School, all students participate in our programme of ‘Wandering Wednesdays’ to enhance their spiritual development and encourage social action and RE sessions within tutor time.

 Sixth Form Leadership Team

Our Sixth Form Leadership Team, comprising of Head Boy, Head Girl, deputies and a number of other roles allows students to put themselves forward to be student leaders. By leading on initiatives, providing a voice for students and supporting activities across the school, students are able to develop their leadership and communication skills.

Charity and Social Action

In line with Bishops’ core Christian values and the commandment that Jesus gave us to ‘love one another’, there is a strong community and charity focus within our Sixth Form and lots of opportunities for students to get involved in social action projects such as Christmas Jumper Day and ‘Staff Brew’. Activities such as these enable us to develop our sense of wise action and responsibility for others and ensures that the Bishops’ Sixth Form is a force of good in the wider community and world.
